ホテル飯盛山荘 / Hotel Iimori Sanso

An abandoned hotel "Hotel Iimori Sanso" stands on Mt. Imori, forgotten by the world except for urban explorers and ghost hunters. It is barely accessible by car as the road is quite rough and narrow. Many may give up going there on foot too (I did once). You have to walk up a steep slope to get there.

So why on earth did they build a hotel there? ---I am completely at a loss. Surprisingly, some says many visited the place when they were open, mostly for the unique Kamaburo, a type of steam bath they offered. That is probably why the hotel lasted 40 years, from 1970s to 2010s.

I found another abandoned lodge near the site, as well as abandoned houses or sheds on the way. Most of them are barely standing so I assume a small earthquake or snowfall would be the final nail in the coffin.

ホテル飯盛山荘は和歌山県紀の川市の飯盛山にある廃ホテルです。車ではアクセス困難な細くて険しい道で、かつ徒歩では急こう配な坂を登らなければ辿り着けないため、廃墟愛好家や心霊スポット好き以外はこのあたりには来ないのではないでしょうか。私が滞在していた2～3時間の間も、聞こえるのは落ち葉の音と鳥の鳴き声だけで、誰一人見かけることはありませんでした。

何故こんなにアクセス困難な場所にホテルを建てたのかが非常に謎ではありますが、意外にも当時(1990年代)は日帰り入浴客もたくさん訪れていたようです。「薬草かまぶろ温泉」という珍しい窯風呂の魅力もあってか、1970年代～2010年頃まで40年間もこの辺鄙な地で営業をしていたそう。

すぐ近くにも廃山荘があり、道中には廃屋や小屋の廃墟も転々と存在していました。そのほとんどは地震や積雪でいつ崩れてもおかしくないような状態でした。

I could not find a way to go up there. I checked other people's reports and no one seems to have found it either. The tower is located right above the big bath for men and the second floor apparently has no walls. Baffling!

男湯の真上に存在する謎の塔。周辺を探索しましたが上階へ上る経路は見つけられず、他の人のレポートを見てみても皆さん見つけられなかったようです。2階は壁もなくオープンな造りで3階は宴会場か展望台のような不思議な構造でした。
