Bannosawa School (former Shoto Elementary School) was founded in 1906 with the capacity of 20 students. The rotunda, which is the last structure still standing, was built in 1959, during when the town was booming with Bibai Mine prospered.
沼東小学校の前身である盤之沢簡易教育所が1906年に設立。当時の児童数は20名でした。1959年には美唄鉱山の好況を受けて、唯一現存する円形校舎が建てられました。最盛期には児童数が1570名まで増えたそう。
