Report of 2nd Visit in 2013

Beelitz Heilstaten sanatorium was built between 1898 and 1930 in three phases. It was one of the largest hospital complexes in Berlin area, consisted of 60 buildings on a total area of approx. 200 ha.

ベーリッツ・ハイルシュテッテン・サナトリウムは1898年～1930年の間に3段階にわたって建設されました。2平方キロメートル程の広大な敷地に約60棟の建物があり、当時ベルリン地区では最も規模の大きい総合病院の一つでした。

During the First and Second World War, Beelitz Hailstaten was used as a military hospital and sanatorium for soldiers. It is widely known that the then Private, Adolf Hitler was admitted and treated here for 2 months in 1916. After the end of WWII, during which parts of facilities were badly damaged, the hospital was taken over by the Soviet Army in 1945. It served as the largest military hospital of the Soviet army abroad until 1994.

With the withdrawal of the Soviet Army in 1994, the hospital was returned to the owner and some buildings were renovated. However as they went bankrupt in 2001, no further development followed.

The hospital has so many interesting histories already but there are also other stories which probably attract ghost/mystery hunters all over the world. First one was during when the hospital was used by the Soviet in 1991, a wife of a Soviet doctor and her three-month-old baby were murdered by serial killer Beate Schmidt. Second one was in 2008, a photographer murdered a model who he met on the internet (Article in German). There were also accidents and a suicide occurred here.

Apparently, there is now a guided tour and it became a tourist attraction.

第一次・第二次世界大戦時には負傷兵の軍病院として使用され、1916年には当時二等兵だったアドルフ・ヒトラーが2か月療養したことでも有名です。戦後1945年にソ連軍に接収され、1994年まで同軍最大の国外軍病院として使用されました。1994年にソ連軍が撤退し、所有者に返還された後は建物の改修や増設がされたようですが、2001年に所有者が倒産したため、廃墟となり放置されました。

既に興味深い歴史を持つ廃墟ですが、それだけでなく世界中の心霊好きが好きそうな"曰くつき”廃墟でもあります。ソ連軍に使用されていた1991年、連続殺人犯のベアテ・シュミッドがベーリッツ病院で働く医師の妻と生後3カ月の子供を殺害。2008年、写真家の男性がネット上で知り合ったモデルを殺害。それ以外にも転落事故や自殺事件等あったようです。

どうやら現在ではガイドツアーが実施されており、観光地のようになっているようです。
