Severalls Hospital was a psychiatric hospital in Colchester, England. It opened as the Second Essex County Asylum in May 1913.
The hospital used the echelon plan arrangement: the echelon wings spread from the main building to an almost continuous range, with each ward block interlinked. There were also detached hospital villas for acute admissions and children, as well as the larger buildings for private patients.
In August 1942 the hospital was subjected to a bombing by Luftwaffe. It largely destroyed the officer's laundry and two female ward blocks, killing 38 female patients and injuring another 23.
The hospital population started to decline in early 1980s since the introduction of Care in the Community (British policy of deinstituonalization: treating people in their home rather than in a institution). The main building closed in March 1997.
The demolition work started in 2016.
セヴェラルズ病院はイギリス・コルチェスターにあった廃精神病院です。1913年5月に第二エセックス郡精神病院として開院しました。この病院は"エシュロン計画/エシュロン隊形”に基づいて設計されており、メインの建物とそれぞれの病棟が長い廊下で連結された形で建設されました。また、急性期入院病棟や小児病棟の離れや、医療費自己負担患者用の大きい病棟も敷地内にあったようです。
1942年8月にはドイツ空軍の爆撃に遭い、役員用の洗濯室と女性病棟2棟が大規模に破壊され、女性患者38名が亡くなり、23名が負傷しました。
1980年代前半、患者を収容施設ではなく家で治療・療養するというイギリスの政策"Care in the Community"が導入され、患者数が徐々に減少し始めました。1997年3月にメイン病棟が閉鎖されました。
2016年から解体工事が始まり、跡地には住宅団地が建設されるようです。
